Spencer is a manually based physical therapist who employs a variety of techniques including joint and soft tissue mobilization, Active Release and Muscle Energy Technique, and trigger point release, and is certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling. Spencer is Actively pursuing certifications in Visceral Mobilization and Neural mobilization through the Barral Institute. He is skilled in functionally based corrective exercises and is a certified kettlebell and bodyweight instructor through StrongFirst. These exercises are oriented towards regaining efficient movement patterns and pain-free activities. He is very passionate about helping people of all ages return to the activities they enjoy including programs for runners, bikers, surfers, skiers, high school athletes, collegiate athletes, former pro athletes, and weekend warriors. As well, Spencer is also a Certified Functional Medicine Specialist. As defined by the Mayo Clinic, “the functional medicine model of care offers a patient-centered approach to chronic disease management.” “Functional medicine providers spend time listening to you and gathering your medical history which is used to identify the root causes of the illness, including triggers such as poor nutrition, stress, toxins, allergens, genetics, and your microbiome.”

Spencer graduated from D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY in 2000 with both a Bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Physical Therapy. As a native of Western NY, Spencer took his first job as a physical therapist at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo where he worked for 3 years treating children with various conditions ranging from sports and orthopedic injuries to children with developmental disabilities.

Although Spencer loved working with children, he decided to take on a new adventure as a traveling physical therapist which involved working in 12 different states and experiencing a variety of treatment settings. He gained extensive knowledge in a variety of treatment settings including outpatient orthopedics, acute care, hospital sub-acute rehabilitation, and neurologic rehabilitation. These experiences included the prestigious International Center for Spinal Cord Injury at Kennedy Krieger in Baltimore, where he was part of the original team of the most innovative Spinal Cord Program in the United States.

Spencer has focused more intensely on outpatient orthopedics since 2007 and loves this setting for helping people.

Spencer is pleased to be living in Wisconsin since 2015 now with his wife, son, and two daughters where they have established roots and family within the community of friends that they have built. He is excited to be a part of the Milwaukee community and enjoys all of the outdoor activities that Wisconsin has to offer. His favorite activities include skiing, surfing, mountain biking, traveling, and camping.
