Myofascial Release
section-82c425c
Myofascial Release uses a hands-on approach to globally address pathologies in the body which are causing pain and limiting function. The technique includes gentle prolonged stretching which is said to release deep collagenous restrictions. A differentiating factor with this type of treatment is the holistic approach it takes. “Look for the symptoms and look elsewhere for the cause” is a common theme.
One may complain of foot pain and experience therapy working all the way up to the head as treatment progresses. Another unique factor is the hold time of techniques associated with this body of work. Stretching for a minimum of 2 to 5 minutes is often applied to areas of restriction.
Our fascia is a tough connective tissue that spreads three dimensionally throughout the body like a spider web, surrounding every nerve, muscle fiber, blood vessel and organ. Restrictions in the fascia can exert tremendous pressure on these pain sensitive structures (studies show up to 2,000 pounds per square inch!). Releasing of this tissue restores pain free mobility.
Conditions that may benefit from Myofascial Release include:
- Whiplash
- Low back pain
- TMJ Disorders
- Headaches
- Scarring
- Chronic pain
- Fibromyalgia
This gentle release technique is performed by expertly trained therapists at Freedom. Schedule an appointment to find out if this approach may be a missing link for you!
